Forge is working with the Brunel Statue Group to secure planning permission to erect a 20 meter high statue of the legendary engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Designed by local artist and blacksmith Kevin Boys, the project commemorates the historical importance of the area and celebrates Brunel’s achievements. Brunel was recently voted the second greatest Briton of all time and worked on the nearby Thames Tunnel, built in 1832 to link Wapping and Rotherhithe. The proposal incorporates associated landscaping and follies that demonstrate the historical importance of the area through education and social interaction.
